How to Nail a Scholarship or Grant
In a video interview, Student Awards President Suzanne Tyson talks scholarships with Globe and Mail Personal Finance Columnist Rob Carrick, and points out that:
- About 50% of the studentawards.com scholarship database is comprised of awards that are not merit-based.
- Many scholarship administrators are looking for more than just grades. They are interested in well-rounded individuals.
- There is no scholarship season. New awards are created all the time.
- Post-secondary students should visit their school’s financial aid office and investigate scholarships that don’t have applications. Administrators want to give these scholarships away, so students should apply even if they think they are a long shot.
