An annual Government of Alberta scholarship for Albertans studying in the arts, humanities and social sciences in fields where their gender is underrepresented or disadvantaged, and whose work advances gender equality. $100,000 is available: 40 students will receive $2,500 each. The intake runs September 14 to October 30, 2026.

How to Apply

Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person (visa students are not eligible). You must be studying in a program where your gender is underrepresented or disadvantaged and show how you are meaningfully working to advance gender equality in your field through research, volunteering, mentorship or other activities. Must be a resident of Alberta: one parent or legal guardian has maintained permanent residence in Alberta for at least 12 consecutive months immediately before post-secondary studies, or Alberta is the last place the student lived for 6 consecutive months immediately before post-secondary studies, or the student's spouse or partner has maintained permanent residence in Alberta for 6 consecutive months before post-secondary studies. Applicants can apply once during each intake. Undergraduate students must be registered, full or part-time, at an approved post-secondary institution in Alberta; undergraduates studying outside Alberta are not eligible. Post-graduate students registered full or part-time may apply if they are Alberta residents, even if studying outside Alberta. There is no age limit. High school students, even those accepted into an upcoming program, are not eligible: you must be a post-secondary student currently enrolled in and attending courses. Students in short-term, part-time continuing education courses are not eligible. You can apply to the Women in STEM, Persons Case and Women in Technical and Applied Arts scholarships, but only one can be awarded in the same calendar year. Previous applicants may apply, with priority to those who have not received the Persons Case Scholarship before.

Once the intake has opened, request a GATE Front Office account, then complete the application for funding in GATE Front Office. Required documents: proof of enrolment (with the post-secondary institution's official logo, for the current academic year and current term) and two references (two separate PDFs). You will also need your Social Insurance Number and your Alberta Student Number. Incomplete applications will not be accepted, and all decisions are final, with no appeals. Notifications are emailed to the address on your GATE Front Office account, approximately 3 months after the intake deadline. The intake closes October 30, 2026. Assessments run November to December 2026; notifications are expected in February 2027 and payments in March 2027.
