A Carleton University bursary of $5,000, awarded annually to Indigenous students in demonstrated financial need who are entering any full-time undergraduate program at Carleton. Its intent is to provide a transformational opportunity to a student who faces significant financial barriers and has demonstrated the ability to overcome obstacles and adversity. Recipients are invited to take part in mentorship opportunities in their first year and encouraged to act as mentors in later years. It may be continued for 3 years of full-time enrollment, provided students remain in good academic standing and continue to demonstrate financial need. Endowed in 2021 through the generosity of The Joyce Family Foundation.

- Application
You must be an Indigenous student who has applied and been offered admission to an undergraduate degree program at Carleton University, entering the first year of the program and pursuing post-secondary studies for the first time, no more than three years after completing high school. You must demonstrate financial need, by completing and submitting the application form, and demonstrate community involvement and resilience in your pursuit of post-secondary education. Preference is given to those with limited or no other avenues of funding to support their post-secondary education.
Complete the entire 2026-2027 application form and submit all documents directly to Carleton's Awards and Financial Aid office at awards@carleton.ca, with one letter of recommendation from someone who can speak to how you meet the specific eligibility criteria and exemplify the values of this award. The form asks for your Carleton Student ID. Proof of Indigenous identity is a mandatory part of applying for awards limited to Indigenous (First Nation, Métis or Inuit) applicants; Carleton lists the accepted documents on its Confirming Indigenous Identity for Awards page. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. Deadline: October 31 (the form prints no year).
