The University of Guelph funds a full-tuition award for registered Status members of eleven First Nations whose traditional territory the University of Guelph and Guelph-Humber campuses sit on, studying in an eligible Guelph-Humber undergraduate program. A student can receive it once at each academic level — associate diploma, undergraduate, and graduate. The application is due August 1; the August 1, 2026 date has passed and the university has not yet published a 2027 one.
Annual award. Last ran: 2026.
How to Apply
- Eligibility
- Application
You must be entering or registered in an eligible University of Guelph-Humber undergraduate program and be a registered Status member of one of the following First Nations: Mississaugas of the Credit, Six Nations of the Grand River, Nation Huronne Wendat/Huron-Wendat, Eelūnaapèewii Lahkèewiit (Delaware Nation at Moraviantown), Chippewas of the Thames, Oneida of the Thames, Munsee-Delaware, Kettle and Stoney Point, Aamjiwnaang, Bkejwanong (Walpole Island), Caldwell. Students can receive the award for one program at each academic level: associate diploma, undergraduate, graduate (masters and doctoral).
Apply by August 1 by submitting the Local First Nations Award application form. Applicants are asked to provide a declaration and authorization that includes "I authorize the University of Guelph to confirm my membership with my First Nations community for distribution of the Local First Nations Award." The University of Guelph adjusts the award if you withdraw or drop courses after receiving it, and it cannot be refunded to you once credited; students are eligible to have it reinstated on their return if they still meet the requirements, and a return after more than one academic year should be notified to Student Financial Services, with awarding then subject to the availability of funds. The most recent published deadline was August 1, 2026, which has passed; check Guelph-Humber's own in-course awards page for the 2027 date.
