One $5,000 scholarship from Kabam, the games company behind Marvel Contest of Champions, for full-time art and design students in British Columbia or Quebec who want a career in video games. A selection panel of people who know art and design in the gaming industry reviews anonymized applications, looking at academic performance, involvement in gaming, achievements, the essay, references and portfolio. The winner will be announced in December 2026.
How to Apply
- Eligibility
- Application
You must be based in, and enrolled full-time in, a post-secondary art or design program at an accredited college, university or other post-secondary institution in British Columbia or Quebec. You must be a legal resident of Canada who can legally work and receive funds in Canada, and you must have shown a passion for the video game industry and a wish to work in it. Kabam says a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 out of 4.0, or 80%, is ideal; it does not describe that as a strict minimum. Kabam says the eligibility criteria may change. Kabam's application form does not stop you applying from another province — it asks about a school "in Canada" and offers "Other" — but its terms limit the award to British Columbia and Quebec.
Apply on Kabam's application page. Applications are accepted from August 17 to October 16, 2026. You'll need: your resume or CV; your current academic transcript; a 500-word response (PDF) about the impact you want to have on the gaming industry and how you've been involved in supporting it; a letter of recommendation (PDF) from someone such as a professor or manager who can speak to your work ethic, your passion and your involvement in gaming; and a portfolio (PDF, art or design) of your best one or two projects, ideally in gaming, interactive media or digital art, with a short description of your role, the tools you used and the story behind each piece, plus early concept variations. Kabam says applications without a portfolio are not eligible. It may also ask for contact details for two references. If you win, you'll need to show proof of enrolment before you're paid and sign a release that lets Kabam use material such as your photo or a quote from your essay in its promotion. Kabam says it may also use applicants' information when considering them for future jobs. Kabam can revoke eligibility on several grounds — for example, for incorrect or misleading information — and it may change or cancel the scholarship at any time without notice; its decisions are final. The winner is responsible for any tax on the award.
