A skilled-trades scholarship worth $20,000 for a one-year certificate or $40,000 for a two-year diploma, paid at $20,000 per academic year toward tuition, tools and living expenses. The Schulich Foundation funds 120 of them a year at twelve Ontario colleges — ten per college, five for certificate students and five for diploma students. Ontario high schools and community organizations nominate students, and each college runs its own application with its own deadline. The round for students starting in fall 2026 has closed at every college; Durham College says applications for Schulich Builders 2027 open in March 2027.
Annual award. Last ran: 2026.
How to Apply
- Eligibility
- Application
You must be a Canadian citizen, meet the college's admission requirements, and be enrolling full-time in an eligible skilled-trades one-year certificate or two-year diploma program at one of the twelve participating Ontario colleges. Each college publishes its own list of eligible programs. Selection rests on strong work ethic and character, evidenced by one letter of recommendation from someone directly connected to you — the funder suggests a high school staff member, employer, co-worker or community service organization — and on financial need, which each college's admissions department determines.
You apply at a participating college, not to the foundation: Algonquin, Cambrian, Centennial, Conestoga, Durham, Fanshawe, George Brown, Georgian, Humber Polytechnic, Loyalist, Mohawk and Sheridan. Each has its own application form, its own requirements and its own deadline. Nomination comes first: Ontario high schools can nominate up to five students and community organizations up to ten each, by emailing the foundation for the nomination form, and nominees are then invited by email to apply. For the round that has just closed, college deadlines ran from April 5 to June 30, 2026, and all winners were confirmed by July 31, 2026. Durham College says applications for Schulich Builders 2027 will open in March 2027; no other college has published a 2027 date yet, so check your college's own page before the spring.
